Does soccer ball heading cause retinal bleeding?

Published by Mary under Uncategorized

This headline is from a recent study from the University of Washington Medical School. For years the discussion about the hazards of soccer have made their way into the lead stories on the five oclock news. There was a different study of 30 swedish soccer players that concluded that their lower IQ was due to the constant heading of the ball and bumping of their heads even though that study was not able to conclude that the players did not begin life with a lower IQ only that they currently had a lower IQ than other swedish counter parts. The headline of this recent article has been getting national attention this week right as signups for summer soccer leagues around the country are being scheduled. It is getting a lot of attention and drawing into question the safety of our children. The conclusion of the article does not match the title. Read the summary of the article and then join the discussion and let us know what you think? At Stay at Home Mom we were wondering why this headline wasn’t followed by “Obesity in children and adolescents–a new epidemic?” another recent study that pertains to the well being of our youth.

Book of the Month

Published by Mary under Uncategorized

“For reasons unfathomable to the most experienced prophets in Maycomb County, autumn turned to winter that year. We had two weeks of the coldest weather since 1885, Atticus said. Mr. Avery said it was written on the Rosetta Stone that when children disobeyed their parents, smoked cigarettes and made war on each other, the seasons would change: Jem and I were burdened with the guilt of contributing to the aberations of nature, thereby causing unhappiness to our neighbors and discomfort to ourselves.”

Kudos to the best post of the week

Published by Mary under Uncategorized

Thank you to our mom aka lvbeinghome for posting the best advice on the Stay at Home Mom help board this last month. Tonja suggested that a toddler that continually makes messes at the breakfast table should be taught to clean it up themselves. From personal experience at the Stay at Home Mom test centers this method really works - it does take a great deal of patience and some time and even a little cleaning up after the toddler leaves the room but it is all worth it.

Thanks Tonja for writing in with your suggestion. A $5 gift certificate to Amazon.com is on it’s way for your award winning post. You can read lvbeinghome’s post in the section called “Gravity Works”. You can also visit lvbeinghomes personal webpage by clicking here
