Miss America is on tonight. The microwave popcorn is lined up and the pops are in the cooler. We are set.

I love the Miss America pageant and watch it every year. This year I was surprised to find a tribute to the Miss America pageant on VH1. It was one of the best shows on the history of Miss America I have ever seen. It included very candid interviews with former Miss Americas who shared pageant secrets like how they kept their bathing suits to stay in place while they are on stage. It was fabulous. There were interviews with former judges and it highlighted several historic moments.

We have a Halloween birthday in our household so beginning in early September I am being constantly reminded that Halloween is ALMOST HERE and we need to start planning not only for costumes but also for the birthday party.

The only thing is, and this is a little bit difficult to admit, I am not a supermom. I am not a genius or even creative cook, I have trouble getting spots out of laundry, I still have some baby weight to lose, and I absolutely do not sew.

So, every year around Halloween I hope that I can encourage the kids to be something that involves taking a glue gun to a pair of their old sweatsuits that they are about to grow out of. That worked for my older boys - they just wanted to be super heros and that was easy. Glue an S on a blue sweatshirt or a felt bat on a yellow felt piece and then both of those on a black sweatshirt. Done. But now our little darling daughter is getting at an age where she wants to coordinate the entire family into a major production with a theme - and the boys are happy to go along with her - they just want the candy.

We went to the school open house last night. I have been in that school millions of times with our older kids and our littlest was always there with me. But now that he is in kindergarten at the school every inch of the school seems new. He wanted to show me the library, the playground, the bathrooms, the hallways and of course every inch of his classroom. It was very fun. It is exciting seeing the same old thing through the new discovery outlooks of your childs eyes.

Your husband may be cute - he may have a great job - he may have a dazzling car - but here is the ultimate criteria for husband material…. Does his mother have the same birthday as your mother?
