Little Miracles
Well, we finally got all the holiday decorations put away. Almost. A few things at the top of the stairs waiting to go down to the basement storage to wait for the next holiday season. As you know from reading this blog, I was struggling with the commercialism of the holidays again this year. But finally, I heard a pastor who reminded me the season isn’t about filling the days with Magic but reminding us that Miracles are possible. That one sentance made all the difference for me during the last couple weeks of December.Since then I have noticed more and more how the Lord works in mysterious ways. One of the things that is one of my worries is that I’m not always being a good enough Mom - it is a theme I hear from alot of Moms. So, during one of those moments, my 7 year old helped me snap right out of it by one little comment. He went to our window bench that is used to store blankets and some toys and pulled out a couple of toys he hadn’t played with in about a year. He rarely goes to the bench so I’m not quite sure what inspired him this one night. He pulled out the two toys and came up to me and set them down in front of me and said “What a great day! Look what I found in the bench. This brings back such great memories…and I found a dime!” Great Memories? Here? Really? My 7 year old has great memories? That was music to my ears. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, I decided to do some early spring cleaning in my closet and pull out the old clothes that had collected in a heap on a shelf. That’s when I found it - As I was pulling clothes out to fold those few things that were keepers and toss the things that were not, I found it. Tucked way back in the back of the closet was one final unopened bag of halloween candy. It was beautiful! Of course, after the New Years resolution to lose weight, we have been avoiding having any sweets in the house whatsoever. Wow, that one little tiny mini chocolate bar tasted so gooood. When I was a kid my least favorite thing to do in the entire world was clean my room. Now with four kids of my own I am trying to figure out how to inspire them how to keep their own rooms clean. So, this last weekend I thought maybe I could at least lead by example and clean my own room. And even though the task was entered into somewhat reluctantly I was rewarded for cleaning my room by finding Halloween candy. So, that’s it for tonight. I am enjoying the little moments that fill our life with little unexplainable miracle moments.
