One of the great things about being a stay at home mom is that we can choose how we spend our time (of course there is laundry to wash and meals to prepare but we essentially have control over our day). The end of summer - it ALWAYS comes too quick. Sure there are moments when the kids say they’re bored. But by the end of August we all seem to have just hit our groove and are into full on fun. So, as of today we have not purchased one new pencil, not a single back to school item of clothing, no new backpacks or lunch boxes.
We would love to hear from you. Are you getting the kids to bed earlier to prep them for the school schedule? Have you done the shopping? Or are you in a school district that is already back in class? Post your comments below by clicking on comment. Looking forward to hearing about how other Moms are winding down the summer.

In general, at Stay at Home Mom, we talk about ways to protect your kids. But as Mom’s we also protect our family in general. One of the best ways to protect your family is to be alert in regards to the different scammers out in the world.
The scam “du jour” that I was reading about today was the IRS scam. The best way to prevent getting taken by this scam is to be very proactive. If someone from an IRS contractor contacts you and says you owe money, only make the check out to the US Treasurer and even then do not give the check to the contractor but send it in directly to the IRS using an address that you personnally verify from the official irs.gov website. Even better yet, go directly to the nearest IRS office and verify for yourself that this is a legitimate collector. That may sound a little paranoid but scammers have taken their scams to a new level of despicableness and we have to be on our guard before some scammer clears out the bank account. IRS SCAM
The other thing to do is to sign up for the scam buster email alerts. It is an amazing website that everyone should read. It explains how scammers can send you an email that looks like it is an official email from your bank or paypal or ebay but it’s really not.
