Continuity of Care

Published by Mary under parenting

The American Academy of Pediatrics has come out with a press release on the new development of Retail Based Clinics (RBC).  These are little health care clinics popping up inside of superstores (proposed by Target and other similar stores).  The idea is that you can visit one of these superstores and along with a pharmacy you can also pop in and get a check up while you’re there.

Our recommendation is to find a good pediatrician / family doctor that you can go to on a regular basis. The ideal situation is to go to one clinic for the entire family.  In general, during an office visit you don’t have that much time with the doctor and often times it is the things that you don’t think of to tell your doctor that can make a difference.  If you are going to one clinic and keep an ongoing chart there it will be easier for the doctor to come to a better diagnosis.  If the doctor knows the whole family, your living environment, stresses and history, it is much easier to put the pieces together quickly.

Check out your doctors credentials.  Check out the credentials of any health care professional you take your child to see.  There is a big difference between an MD and a Nurse Practitioner or a Physicians Assistant (PA).  I personally know several brilliant Nurse Practitioners and I take my kids to a clinic with a full range of practitioners ( MD PA Nurse Practitioners ) and I fully trust the care given by the PA at this clinic.  At the same time if he is not in the office and my kids need to be seen right away they can be seen by one of the other practitioners who has access to the same chart.

As featured on the morning shows this morning

Published by Mary under Yay! Mom

Hi!  It is fun to see that Stay at Home Mom dot com is staying on the cutting edge.  This morning on the morning shows the video “9 months in 20 seconds” as seen below was featured on GMA. On the Today show they featured the importance of vitamins in your diet - especially with spinach being taken off the shelves for a while.

CLICK HERE for our recommendation.  And don’t just believe us - read about your multivitamin before you take it.  It has always seemed to make sense to me that a vitamin that dissolves quickly and is absorbed rather than just flushing through makes sense - and beyond that I don’t really want to have to get into the habit of having to take a hand full of vitamins to get what I need.  I like one, well balanced, multivitamin.  For busy moms, it just makes sense to give ourselves as much of an advantage on the day as possible.  Here is a great way to start the day:

Mix the following ingredients in a magic bullet or blender

1 cup vanilla soy milk
1 scoop protein powder
1 banana

Drink this and then once you have food in your stomach take your multivitamin

This will get you started with the energy you’ll need to keep up with the kids, house, hubby, and life.

My favorite quote came from probably the first famous television chef, Julia Child, “Life, itself, is the proper binge”.  So, let’s go out there and binge today.  Live Life!

DO try this at home!

Published by Mary under Just for Fun, parenting

Oh my gosh, I have never seen anything like this and my baby is now 17. I have been folding clothes for almost 30 years now (before that I always let my mom fold my clothes) and in all those years no one has ever shown me this trick.

HOW TO FOLD A SHIRT The original

HOW TO FOLD A SHIRT explained in english - be sure and watch the original one to see this in full speed.

There are also a number of other videos on this subject to watch so that you can see just how fast this can be done.
