Protecting your family
Filed under: Safety;In general, at Stay at Home Mom, we talk about ways to protect your kids. But as Mom’s we also protect our family in general. One of the best ways to protect your family is to be alert in regards to the different scammers out in the world.
The scam “du jour” that I was reading about today was the IRS scam. The best way to prevent getting taken by this scam is to be very proactive. If someone from an IRS contractor contacts you and says you owe money, only make the check out to the US Treasurer and even then do not give the check to the contractor but send it in directly to the IRS using an address that you personnally verify from the official irs.gov website. Even better yet, go directly to the nearest IRS office and verify for yourself that this is a legitimate collector. That may sound a little paranoid but scammers have taken their scams to a new level of despicableness and we have to be on our guard before some scammer clears out the bank account. IRS SCAM
The other thing to do is to sign up for the scam buster email alerts. It is an amazing website that everyone should read. It explains how scammers can send you an email that looks like it is an official email from your bank or paypal or ebay but it’s really not.
